...was reallyreally good. The artwork was very amazing. It reminded me a lot of The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, but more evolved and sophisticated.

Ok so, 80s night last night was hella fun. I enjoyed dancing and seeing lots of people I knew. It seemed like a lot of older folks were there, and it wasn't quite as jam-packed crowded as it is during school session, but it was still very busy. I am so very glad that the window incident did not shut the club down for good. There just aren't a lot of good places here to dance. Sure there are other dance clubs, but they suck.  I have been obsessed with knitting and crochet lately. I started knitting this scarf and I wanted to use two colors of yarn, but couldn't decide on a stitch pattern, so I started it about half a dozen times before settling on k1 p2 rib and changing colors in wide stripes, but then I decided after starting the second color stripe, that I wanted to add a third color, so I ran out and bought more yarn, and after knitting the third color stripe, decided that it needs still more colors and I want the stripes to be narrower. For creative projects, I sometimes have trouble visualizing the end result and I end up changing things as I see them develop, and I won't be satisfied following through with something that's not turning out the way I want it. So, I guess I will be unravelling the work and buying yet more yarn. In the meantime, I crocheted a wonderful triangular net bellydance hip scarf, and I want to do more of those. I busted it out in just a couple of hours. Watched a lot of movies in the last few days. Lemme see if I can remember...Mr. & Mrs. Smith was better than I expected. Serenity was a really good scifi flick, and although I only watched a few episodes of the tv series, it was enough to appreciate what they ended up doing with all the different characters. Land of the Dead rawked--I love how it was set in Pittsburgh, and of course there was a Tom Savini cameo. Devil's Rejects was significantly better than Rob Zombie's first film. It was as if he had learned from his mistakes and the result was much more disturbing. For fun and giggles, I also recently reviewed The Big Lebowski. It's funny everytime. And, I reviewed Dodgeball with my bro, who's never seen it. Dodgeball remains one of my fave underdog stories. Also been tivo-ing lots of good stuff. Project Runway started back up, and it is awesome. If you've never seen Greg the Bunny, it's the funniest 15 minutes on tv right now. My favorite so far was the spoof of Annie Hall: Bunny Hall, in which Greg falls in love with a lobster. Go figure. Also got turned onto Harvey Birdman, and The Boondocks on adult swim. Still tivo-ing The Daily Show and Iron Chef, and today is America's Next Top Model marathon. I don't usually have this much time to just sit in front of the tube. Tonite, LBK is starting back up and I'm hoping for a good showing. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, and I am pretty much set on going to Una's party. There are a couple other parties that I could hit if I wanted to hop around, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'm just not that into NYE anymore, since I no longer host my own party. But it's cool. I liked doing the holiday party at the Prana, and maybe that will become a new tradition.

Movies

Chicago: surprisingly awesome and well-done. I love how the film is chock full of beautiful women in lingerie and sparkly show girl outfits. **** Robots: a formulaic heartwarming tale about the loving bond between father and son, and a coming of age story about a young inventive robot making his way in the world, and so on. The CG animation was eye-grabbing, but Pixar/Disney has already told this story, what, 3-4 times? *** * Hated it. ** It was ok. *** Liked it. ****Really liked it. *****Loved it.

It could be him, or am I tripping?

Sometimes, it's hard for me to transition from play back to work, especially if I've been having a really good time, so I did not look forward to coming back into the office this AM. However, the first song to play on my station on launchcast was The Jeep Song, so that made me very happy. Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - I really liked this a lot. I'm not used to seeing Jim Carey play such a role. He was not a goofball in this. He played a serious character with real emotions, and he did so very well. Kate Winslett also rocked, and I loved the whole feel of the film, which was like a trip through someone's memories, complete with distorted reality, as they are being dismantled, one by one. Harold and Kumar go to White Castle - another stoner movie. It was funny and entertaining. Lots of inside stoner humor that I didn't really get 'cause I'm lame. I thought it could have been funnier. I was only slightly disappointed (sort of how I felt about Without a Paddle). They could have done a lot more with the Harold and Kumar characters, who I would love to see reprised in a sequel.

Movies

Saw two very interesting ones this weekend: Magnolia - hadn't seen that one yet. Lots of big stars in there, and the acting is all good. I liked the direction style and how this film was put together. It started out jumping around between multiple, seemingly unrelated plot threads that got all tied together by an amazingly farfetched and improbably ending. Every scene was a painful vignette of the characters going through some sort of intense emotion, and it doesn't let up. It's one intense heart-wrenching scene after another and doesn't ever give you time to breathe, but I loved it. Grizzly Man - a documentary put together by Werner Herzog about a real guy, Timothy Treadwell, who lived with Grizzly bears in the Alaskan wild and filmed his interactions with them. This dude was obviously a nutcase, but I think that Herzog made a touching, almost reverant film from Treadwell's footage, and interviews with his friends, family, and the last people to see him alive. Treadwell was actually killed and eaten by a grizzly bear.

Rome was interesting. Also watched Better Than Chocolate - a cute film, c. 1999, taking place in Canada, about cute little lesbians and an endearing transexual. Other than that, just feeling very blah today.

Just got back from seeing Mysterious Skin at the Regent Square theatre. It was brilliant, and tackled some really difficult, painful, subject matter. Good soundtrack too, featuring Robert Guthrie of The Cocteau Twins.

Happy b-day, tommorrow? evilkellychan! Well this must be the day for everyone who is involved in the upcoming show to start panicking. The email exchange among the planning committee has been pretty steady. On top of that, I've had a few work and non-work related phone calls, not to mention actual work to do, so starting to feel a bit frazzled. I'm excited and nervous about the show and hoping all goes well. I am reminded of a favorite quote from a favorite movie: Philip Henslowe: Mr. Fennyman, allow me to explain about the theatre business. The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster. Hugh Fennyman: So what do we do? Philip Henslowe: Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.
